Indian Tree Open Space Preserve to Stafford Lake (Novato)
There is not yet a trailhead at the south end of Indian Tree Open Space Preserve, so this segment of the Ridge Trail is an out-and-back trip, going from north to south. Hikers and equestrians explore Indian Tree’s redwood and Douglas-fir forests on a shady and well-graded trip. A number of viewpoints on the trail look out to different parts of Marin. The mountain biker route has some steep ascents and is in a more open landscape, with especially nice views of Novato.
• From: Vineyard Road
• To: end of Indian Tree Fire Road in Novato
• Length: 3.1 miles one way for hikers and equestrians (plus 3.1-mile return to trailhead); 2.4 miles one way for mountain bikers (plus 2.4-mile return to trailhead)
• Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,200 feet one-way
• Accessibility: Hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers. Cyclists take an alternate route.
